Reporting to the Senior Marketing and Communications Officer, and supervised closely by the Coordinator, Athletic Communications, the incumbent supports the implementation and execution of the Varsity Blues communications plan and social media strategy. This person will be heavily involved in content creation and management (written and multimedia), while also providing communications services, including but not limited to journalistic writing, statistical compilation, production of Varsity Blues publications and website management.

Working in a fast-paced, team environment, the incumbent will deliver accurate, effective and efficient customer service while projecting a welcoming, positive and professional image for the Varsity Blues program and the University of Toronto.

DUTIES

  • Write, edit and produce athletic publications such as media guides, game day programs and other marketing materials.
  • Producing engaging content for a targeted audience. Generating compelling content, including video production (highlights, promo, interviews, etc.) with software such as Adobe Premiere, as well as graphic creation and photo editing with software such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Developing and managing content calendars, in coordination with the Coordinator, Athletic Communications.
  • On-site live social media coverage.
  • Work in conjunction with student staff to ensure that live events and games coverage is held to the highest standard.
  • Photo and video management and archiving.
  • Working with championship committees to develop and execute a digital media strategy leading up to and during championship hosting.
  • Journalistic writing and reporting on a wide variety of teams and sports.
  • Update and create content for varsityblues.ca.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: College Diploma in journalism, sport marketing, sport administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: One-year relevant experience, preferably in a university setting. Experience in an athletic department and in the communications field is preferred.

  • Ability to deliver high quality work in an environment of overlapping and time sensitive tasks. Attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to successfully function in a position driven by competing demands and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, discretion and good judgment.
  • Proficient in video and photo editing (Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Premiere, etc.).
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral/written communication, organizational & editorial skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
