E-Alliance is proud to be hosting a French webinar entitled, “Football for All: Action, Research, Mobilization in the Hijabeuses Movement on April 21, featuring esteemed researcher Dr. Haïfa Tlili. This will be a stimulating discussion about issues related to women wearing headscarves in sport.

In 2020, a group of Hijabi women came together to form “Les Hijabeuses.” The group speaks out about the discrimination against female athletes who wear headscarves and advocates for their rights to play competitive football.

Dr Haïfa Tlili is a post-doctoral feminist researcher who has worked with Muslim women in France, Tunisia, and Canada. This webinar will highlight the injustices experienced by Hijabi women and girls on the field and analyze how we can deconstruct policies to remove barriers to participation and encourage play. The recommendations we will discuss have been developed by human rights activists, psychologists, Hijabi sport leaders, coaches and researchers.

This webinar will expand participants’ understanding of how we can better support Hijabi athletes as teammates, coaches, referees, sport organizers and allies. This conversation will focus on insights from players, stakeholders and athletes.

We encourage you to join us for what is sure to be a critical and eye-opening discussion. This conversation will be held in French and facilitated by Dr. Amélie Keyser-Verreault (Université Laval). A recording with English subtitles will be made available in the days following the webinar.

The conversation will happen on Zoom.
