Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) is happy to invite you to the Collective Action Forum
for Inclusive Sports Programs on November 30, 2022, at 2 pm at Alfred Savage Center (13909 Fox Dr. NW, Edmonton, AB T6H 4P3).

Collective Action Forum for Inclusive Sports Programs is organized by Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) in Edmonton. AHC is a dynamic, community-based agency for people of all ages and backgrounds and provides settlement and capacity-building services to improve their lives and communities through a unique community-building process, including support, mentoring, and training. AHC supports underserved and marginalized communities in Edmonton and small centers across Alberta toward the
creation of an inclusive society and addresses the barriers for the equity deserve groups to fully participate in society.

One of those projects is PASS (Participating in Arts, Sports, and Society). It was initiated to address the systemic barriers to the racialized new immigrant communities’ participation in sports activities which is an essential piece of social integration. This project scope includes a research project, sector conversation, promoting EDI policy, and creating opportunities for the affected communities to participate in sports. Within the project, AHC organizes different activities, programs, and events to identify and lower barriers that racialized newcomer youth face in sports participation and will develop recommendations for organizations and policymakers to eliminate those barriers.

Thus, the Collective Action Forum for Inclusive Sports Programs is an event that will be a space for sports organizations, cultural groups, and policy-makers to discuss, connect, and make recommendations to reduce systemic barriers in sport participation for racialized communities. Objectives of the PASS Forum are:

  • To bring together sports organizations and interested cultural community members to explore
    opportunities and network.
  • To share experiences of sports organizations in providing inclusive and accessible programs and activities.
  • To introduce the PASS study on barriers that newcomer youth face in competitive sports and sports
organizations in providing services to them.
