Waterloo Region Set to Host Record-Breaking 2025 Ontario Volleyball Championships
Waterloo, Ontario – The Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) is thrilled to announce the return of our Ontario Championships to Waterloo Region this April. This highly anticipated annual event, recognized as the largest youth amateur volleyball tournament in the province, will see a record-breaking 1,256 teams participating, surpassing last year’s record of 1,082.
Following a fiercely competitive regular season featuring 743 unique events, the 2025 Ontario Championships will consist of seven events spread over the month of April. The first 5 events, consisting of 868 teams and over 9500 athletes, will be heading to RIM Park beginning April 4th. The Waterloo sport complex will serve as the primary venue for Events #1-5, with Conestoga College acting as a satellite host for select competitions.
RIM Park:
- Event #1: April 4 – 6 (16UG and 4v4 Boys/Co-ed)
- Event #2: April 11 – 13 (TLSG)
- Event #3: April 17 – 19 (17UG & TLSB)
- Event #4: April 20 – 22 (15UB, 16UB & 17UB)
- Event #5: April 25 – 27 (4v4G, 18UG & 18UB)
Conestoga College (Doon Village Campus):
- Event #1: April 5 – 6 (4v4 Boys/Co-ed)
- Event #2: April 11 – 13 (TLSG)
- Event #5: April 25 – 27 (4v4G)
The championships continue to bring significant economic benefits to the Waterloo Region. In 2024, the event attracted 43,853 out-of-town visitors, with 78% staying overnight for an average of 2.6 room nights. The visitor spending reached $10.3 million, contributing to a total net economic activity (GDP) of $9.46 million nationwide, $8.08 million provincially, and $5.42 million for the Waterloo Region.
Allister Scorgie, Director of Sport Hosting at Explore Waterloo Region, expressed his enthusiasm for the event’s return, “Every April, Waterloo Region is proud to be home to the OVA Championships and continue our long history of supporting volleyball here in Ontario. We know that all participants – athletes, coaches, officials, and parents – will find all the big-city amenities they need here in Waterloo Region, along with the small-town care that makes this event a success year after year.”
OVA Executive Director Jo-Anne Ljubicic echoed this sentiment: “We’re looking forward to some great competition. The support from the city and community has been fantastic, and the volleyball community is eager to embark on the Waterloo Region and enjoy an unforgettable experience. The venue holds a special place in our hearts, having hosted the championships since 2008, adding a touch of nostalgia to this year’s event.”
