Weekly Equestrian Canada COVID-19 Wrap-Up

Equestrian Canada (EC) would like to share the following updates from the fifth week of responding to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Please note that moving forward, the weekly COVID-19 wrap-up will be exclusively available through EC’s website, Facebook and Twitter channels.

EC’s key actions this week:

  • Met with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) to review legislation limitations and current program/funding barriers that restrict equine commercial farm businesses from accessing current and future assistance, as well as to review the short- and long-term effects of COVID-19 on the equine and equestrian sectors. In response, AAFC is creating an COVID-19 working group specific to the equine sector to determine the appropriate relief strategies and resources.
  • Met with Sport Canada to share a report outlining the close relationship with AAFC and the critical support needed for sport activities, equestrian facilities, competition organizers and Provincial/Territorial Sport Organizations (PTSOs).
  • Met with FEI Group IV (Antigua and Barbuda; Bahamas; Barbados; Bermuda; Canada; Cayman Islands; Haiti; U.S. Virgin Islands; Jamaica; Trinidad and Tobago; United States of America) to share experiences and solution strategies.
  • Shared additional resources for fitness and education activities, mental health and Coach training via the EC Insider.
