Canadian Interuniversity Sport – TORONTO (CIS) – The reigning champion McMaster Marauders top the first national rankings of the season in CIS women’s rugby, while Laval (women) and York (Men) hold on to the pole positions in soccer for the second straight week.

McMaster (1-0), which received 200 points to open at No. 1, kicked off its 2016 OUA rugby schedule on Friday with a dominant 81-0 shutout over visiting Toronto. The Marauders, captured their first national title in school history last fall, defeating host Queen’s on its home field 27-3. Guelph (1-0), Ottawa (2-0), Queen’s (1-0) and St.FX (1-0) round out the top five.

In women’s soccer, Laval (3-0-0) remained in top spot after a convincing 6-1 victory over Bishop’s. The Rouge et Or battle the UQAM Citadins on Friday afternoon.

On the men’s side, York improved to 5-0 following a 4-2 win at McMaster and a 3-0 clean sheet at home to Waterloo. The Lions play the Marauders for the second time in three matches Saturday at York Stadium before heading to Guelph on Sunday for the start of a six-game road trip.
