Overview: This is a 3-year full-time contract position supported by the Government of Ontario and administered through the Coaches Association of Ontario.  The role is responsible for implementing Ontario Cycling’s athlete development system, primarily focused on Mountain Bike programming and transitioning athletes into Cycling Canada pathways. The coach may also support Road/Para-Road, CX, Track, and BMX programs, and contributes to Talent Identification and Endurance Focused Camps. The position reports to the Sport Performance Director and works in partnership with the Performance Programs Coordinator. 

Location: The position will be based out of the Ontario Cycling office at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton.  However, remote and hybrid working arrangements will be considered.  This position also requires extended travel domestically and internationally.  

Qualifications

  • NCCP Introduction to Competition or Performance Competition Development Certified or working toward certification (preferred)
  • Completion of Safe Sport and Responsible Coaching Movement training (required)
  • Experience supporting athletes at training camps and competitions, particularly in MTB and endurance disciplines (required)
  • Knowledge of UCI/Cycling Canada MTB and endurance sport pathways (required)
  • Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills (required)
    Understanding of multi-discipline cycling development, including Road, Track, CX, and BMX (an asset)
  • Core Responsibilities
  • Develop annual athlete-centered programming for targeted MTB athletes
  • Coordinate, in-conjunction with OC office staff, programming logistics including camps, race projects, and parent/coach meetings/workshops
  • Support athlete development through encouragement of multidisciplinary initiatives and communication with coaches across all cycling disciplines
  • Lead strategic outreach efforts through Talent Identification Camps and supported Development Camps to recruit, develop, and transfer cycling talent in Ontario
  • Mentor aspiring coaches and collaborate across disciplines to promote shared learning
  • Represent Ontario Cycling in MTB-related communications and development efforts

Coaching & Recruitment Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-level coaching services to identified MTB athletes via OC-led projects and initiatives
  • Maintain and monitor a provincial MTB athlete pool with Ontario Cycling staff including on-going assessment, data collection, and gap analysis 
  • Create and execute endurance-focused training camps to support physiological development and performance longevity
  • Collaborate on the design and delivery of Road/Para-Road, Track, and BMX programming as required
  • Assess development gaps and implement technical, sport science, and endurance-based solutions
  • Generate post-project reports for athlete feedback and program planning across disciplines
  • Lead and support Talent Identification aimed at discovering athletes with competitive potential in MTB and other cycling disciplines

Additional Items

  • Provide support to OCup/Provincial Championship events (MTB/CX) including logistical support on-site and outreach initiatives to promote performance programming to aspiring athletes
  • Assist in preparing external partner and funder reports
  • Create and deliver educational materials for athletes, coaches, and parents across MTB and endurance sports
  • Provide basic mechanical support and logistical support 
  • Assist across disciplines as needed to ensure cohesive development programs
  • Other duties as requested

This is a full-time 3-year contract position. The nature of the role requires evening, weekend, and seasonal travel within Canada and internationally. A criminal record check and driver’s abstract are required prior to hiring.
