The Position:
The Coordinator, Strength and Conditioning is responsible for planning, organizing and supervising initiatives under the Athletic programs. Working under the direction of the Athletics Director, the Coordinator will serve as a member of the team focusing on fitness programming and facilities supervision ensuring safety and compliance with established guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as primary strength and Conditioning coach for three specific programs- Instruction Fitness Training, High Performance Fitness Training, Boys and Girls High Performance Hockey Teams.
- Develop a High-Performance Fitness Training program with standards and requirements that ensure students understand fundamental training techniques.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director and Physical Education department to ensure effective implementing and maintenance of services and programs
- Coordinate logistical details such as scheduling resources and equipment as it relates to fitness
- Ensure health and safety and risk management procedures are observed and followed
- Provide strength training programming and/or delivery to Varsity Level teams i.e. pre-season camp, training sessions, post-season debrief etc.
- Develop and administer fitness programming and class schedules for MacLachlan staff
- Collaborate with the Phys Ed department on academic programming (ie. fitness testing, teaching ideas, potential workshops, certifications, professional development etc.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Therapist regarding any programming for injured students etc.
- Create and implement an equipment rental process for “Open Gym” for users
- Coordinate and manage the fitness resources and equipment
- Participate in hiring support staff for instructional programming as well as coordinate work assignments and schedules offering training and performance feedback
- Participate and provide additional resources and coaching to extracurricular programming and High-Performance strength and conditioning in all three terms, when scheduling conflicts occur.
- Design fitness programming and training sessions over summer months for student athletes
- Provide individual programming and coaching to students attending Open Gym
- Develop, implement, and coach an in-person strength and conditioning program for returning Varsity students over the summer
Skills and Qualifications:
- A post-secondary degree with relevant specialization i.e. Kinesiology, Wellness, Recreation/Sports Management or related field
- Qualifications as a personal trainer, fitness instructor, exercise physiologist, athletic trainer, or specialty certification/education in fitness/wellness required
- Minimum 3 years of proven experience in developing exercise programs and managing people in a fitness industry
- Strong conceptual, strategic, and visionary skills
- Demonstrated initiative and independent problem solving with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Excellent organization and time management skills and the ability to prioritize workload and work within a fast-paced environment
- Ability to ensure effective communications and interactions with individuals at all levels both internal and external clients
- Demonstrates understanding and complies with staff and student risk management policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all
- Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for staff and students within a challenging and exciting education environment

- Available when necessary for evening and weekend work to support programs and events
- Some travel may be required to attend events and meeting
