Alberta Soccer’s Inaugural 7 v 7 Boardless Provincial Championships in Edmonton this weekend

Alberta Soccer – (March 6, 2019) After nearly three years of planning and preparation, Alberta Soccer is pleased to host its inaugural Servus Tier I 7 v 7 Boardless Provincial Championships in Edmonton this weekend.

From March 7-10, Alberta Soccer, with support from EIYSA and EMSA, will welcome 66 teams to compete in the long-awaited competition. With over 1,000 players and coaches from 10 districts participating, this event marks one of Alberta Soccer’s largest competitions.

“As the sport continues to evolve in Alberta and Canada, we are delighted to pilot a 7 v 7 competition for Tier 1 youth teams from across the Province,” said Shaun Lowther, Alberta Soccer Executive Director. “The boardless indoor game has garnered support from many Alberta Clubs and Districts and now with facility development, we can implement competitions that will be instrumental to promoting the game further.”

The boardless championship has been made possible in large part thanks to the opening of the Edmonton Soccer Dome, which will host the majority of the U15 and U17 matches. The U13 games will take place at Edmonton Victoria Indoor Facility.
