Cleve’s Source for Sports Athlete of the Month for March announced

Sport Nova Scotia – (Halifax, March 12, 2019)- Shane Sommers is the Male Individual Athlete of the Month for March. The 14-year-old skier represented Nova Scotia at Canada Games where he took home a gold medal in ski cross. Along with topping the podium, Sommers also placed 13th overall in slalom and 16th overall in super- G. The competition hosted 136 competitors from across the county.

Brenda MacDonald is the Female Individual Athlete of the Month for March. The 20-year-old took home a silver medal in the para giant slalom event at Canada Games in Red Deer. The Martock Ski Race Club member was the only para athlete on the Nova Scotian ski team and plans to continue racing at the university and international level.

The Nova Scotia Canada Games Gymnastics Team are the Team Athletes of the Month for March. Christopher Bearne, Matthew Brown, Andrew Gallant, Vincent d’Entremont, Landon Duquette, and Alex Watters combined performances in rings, high bar, floor, pommels, parallel bars, vault won them bronze in Red Deer; Nova Scotia’s first medal of the games. 

The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards. A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
