Seven Year Record High 375 Teams and Over 2,900 Players Set to Take Part in Super-Spike this Weekend

Winnipeg – Super-Spike, presented by Corona, is excited to announce that for the third year in a row, it has sold out of Team registrations. Over 2,900 players comprising 375 teams will be taking part in this weekend’s festival. That is 25 more teams than last year, and the highest amount of teams the festival has seen in seven years.  Although team registration is now closed, weekend passes for non-tournament participants are available and can be purchased in advance for only $39 at www.superspike.ca.

Super-Spike, which takes place at Maple Grove Rugby Park this July 18th and 19th, combines Western Canada’s largest outdoor volleyball tournament with a weekend long concert series, all set in a festival atmosphere. Canadian stars Virgina to Vegas and Preston Pablo will be co-headlining the Birchwood Automotive main stage at the event Saturday evening.  Numerous other local acts including Always Dale, Encore, Jérémie & The Delicious Hounds and UpCycle, will be performing throughout the weekend.

New this year, Super-Spike has partnered with Volleyball Manitoba’s Summer Beach Series and will be hosting a ‘King and Queen of the Beach Showdown’. The showdown will feature four of the top Manitoba men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams, competing for a $2,000 prize purse at Super-Spike. The women’s match will feature Kait Enns and Mariel Garcia vs. Val Gonzalez and Erika Vermette and will be taking place at approximately 5pm on Saturday. The men’s match featuring Isiah Olfert and Casey Schouten vs. Richard Neickarz and Turner Johnson, will be following it at approximately 6pm.

Super-Spike, now in its twenty-second year, acts as a significant fundraiser with over $1.4 million raised to date for local not-for-profits and community groups.  Funds raised from this year’s event will go to support Volleyball Manitoba, and new charitable partner, the Winnipeg Humane Society.
