JOB OPPORTUNITY:  OCAA OFFICIALS’ ASSIGNOR

Ontario Basketball (OBA) is looking for a qualified individual with a strong history in game management who is knowledgeable about basketball officiating and has administrative expertise to work as the OCAA Officials Assignor under OBA. This individual will work closely and in a collaborative and inclusive manner with OBA High Performance staff and key stakeholders. Reporting to the Senior Director, High Performance and Coordinator, Officials Development, the successful candidate will enjoy working as part of a team, demonstrate a positive attitude, and possess a desire to work in an amateur sport environment.

 Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the oversight and management of the official’s panel for the sport of basketball within the OCAA.
  • Carrying out officials’ evaluations, mentoring, and managing the assignment process.
  • Ensure the application of the FIBA rules are understood and enforced by the hired panel of officials.
  • Circulation of FIBA rule updates and points of emphasis to coaches.
  • Assign exhibition, tournament, regular season, playoff, and championship games in accordance with quality of officials, considering travel distance and budget requirements.
  • Assist with the set-up of the Arbiter Sports software account.
  • Responsible for managing the payments to the OCAA panel officials.

 Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience in basketball officiating and administration.
  • A minimum 10 years officiating experience at the post-secondary level is considered a strong asset.
  • A minimum of 10 years officiating in Ontario is considered a strong asset.
  • Previous experience with performance management processes, mentoring, and evaluating officials will be preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience using the Arbiter Sports software.
  • A minimum National Officials Certification Pathway (NOCP) Competitive Referee (NOCP 2) or Provincial Referee (NOCP 3) certification or higher is considered a strong asset.
  • National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Safe Sport and a satisfactory criminal record check are required.

Type of Position: Contract (no benefits)
Compensation: Honorarium
Term of Agreement: August 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026
Expected Work Environment:  Work from home; project-based day or evening work.
