Football Manitoba hosts U16 Western Challenge and U18 Indigenous Cup Tackle Tournaments

Football Manitoba will be hosting the U16 Western Challenge, and the U18 Indigenous Cup. Both of these events are tackle football championships for boys. 

The U16 Western Challenge is a long-running event for the 4 Western Canadian Provinces to pit their best 14- and 15-year old players in competition. The games begin on July 2nd, with the playoffs following on the 5th. All games will take place at St. Vital Mustangs Field at Maple Grove. 

U16 Schedule 

July 2nd 

Game 1 – 3:30 pm Alberta vs BC 

Game 2 – 7:00 pm Manitoba vs Saskatchewan 

July 5th – Medal Games 

Game 3 – 10:00 am – Bronze Medal game 

Game 4 – 1:30 pm – Gold Medal game 

The U18 Indigenous Cup has been played for several years, starting as a six-aside inter-provincial match between Alberta and Saskatchewan. Last year, a Manitoba team competed for the first time. This year, the event will expand to 9-aside, and a fourth team has been added. Northwestern Ontario will compete for the first time. The games begin on July 3rd, with the playoffs following on the 6th. All games will take place at St. Vital Mustangs Field at Maple Grove. 

Indigenous Cup Schedule 

July 3rd 

Game 1 – 3:30 pm Alberta vs Northwestern Ontario 

Game 2 – 7:00 pm Manitoba vs Saskatchewan 

July 6th – Medal Games 

Game 3 – 10:00 am – Bronze Medal game 

Game 4 – 1:30 pm – Gold Medal game
