Pickering FC (The Club) is a registered non-profit organization incorporated in September 1984 and governed by a 9-member volunteer Board of Directors. The mandate of the PFC is to provide soccer related programs to the residents of Pickering and the Durham region which is delivered by a team of 13 full-time staff, 10 part-time staff and 500+ community volunteers that assist as coaches, team managers, camp counsellors, event staff and fundraisers.
PFC is a national leader in player development, coach education and program development. As a growing club with a strong technical pathway from grassroots to competitive to high-performance we have seen success on the field with current national players and league championships. Our coaching staff is motivated and focused on a player centered environment that continues to attract players. Our Club vision is to ‘be the best Club in Canada’, and we are working hard to get there. The critical component is now to appoint a strong technical leader that will move us nearer to that goal, work with the already established club fabric and enhance it with fresh ideas and innovation.
Position Summary
The Manager, High Performance (MHP) is responsible for the day-to-day technical oversights and delivery of the PFC High Performance stream that includes the male and female teams competing in League 1 Ontario and the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL).
LEADERSHIP
League1 Ontario & OPDL
- Assist the DFO in all matters with respect to the following HP programs:
- League1 Ontario (L1O) Premier/Championship levels of play
- League 2
- U20
- OPDL U13-U17
- Assist coaches in the monitoring and scouting of all players capable of playing in the L1Ontario system
- Act as a player ambassador by uniting the player, the club and the community
- Maintain compliance with Ontario Soccer and Canada Soccer technical requirements
- Coordinate the use of technology systems (VEO, HUDL etc.) to comply with league standards
- Ensure all coaches are certified appropriately for their respective roles
- Ensure club philosophy is being instilled day to day by team assigned team coaches.
- Act as a player ambassador by uniting the player, the club and the community.
- Ensure proper communication channels are adhered to with the club and team environment.
- Ensure support for coaching staff to ensure all training sessions and games have qualified staff present to manage the team on and off the field.
- Co-ordinate a contingency plan for each team as to who will manage the team in the absence of a qualified staff coach.
- In the case of no person(s) being available, the MHP will need to fill the vacant position in the interim.
- Ensure best practices for recruitment, training, evaluation and retention of coaches, program staff/ volunteers to deliver programs.
- In the case of discipline action for any coach within the HP stream, the MHP will ensure all steps are taken to have representation from the Club at any hearing(s) with the Durham Region Soccer Association (DRSA) or Ontario Soccer.
ADMINISTRATION
- Oversee and support the implementation and ongoing development of the PFC HPP Training Centre:
- Review and keep current PFC HPP information, OPDL standards, L1O standards and application documentation.
- Collaborate with the HP Administrator on all tasks related to field bookings, scheduling, player registration, travel permits, budgets, documentation etc;
- Support PFC HPP Coaches and PFC Director of Football Operations (DFO) in program development, including the development of technical curricula and/or seasonal development plans, as requested.
- Support PFC HPP Coaches in their ongoing delivery of sessions, including; observation at competitions, conducting sample sessions, support athlete and apprentice coach evaluations, audit and assess training environments against OPDL/L1O standards, etc.
- Preparing reports related to HPP’s.
COACH MENTORING
Oversee PFC HPP Coaches, including:
- Assist in conducting preliminary assessments of Apprentice Coaches entering the High-Performance stream.
- Arrange and/or provide mentorship opportunities to coaches working on the completion of the National B License and C License.
- Support the growth of the high-performance programs including coach management, recruitment, and retention.
TOURNAMENTS AND SHOWCASES
- Manage an annual calendar of tournaments and showcases for PFC teams and programs.
- Setting and monitoring technical standards, supporting the development of appropriate schedules and matches to support developmentally appropriate and meaningful competition.
- Provide Head Coaches/Team Manager with the program outline and any budgeted items.
- Ensure documentation is provided in good time for applications and approvals both internally and with governing bodies.
- Ensure Team Head Coaches provide a summary of their competition expectations for the team and a final report on return from competition.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be legally able to work in Canada
- Minimum National B (A License preferred)
- 3+ years leadership experience
- Mandatory clear Police Background Check
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required; ability to speak with Members in a professional manner is a must.
- Very strong organizational and administrative skill set.
- Established knowledge of technology such as BEO and HUDL with the ability to learn and adapt to new technology platforms quickly.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team is essential; ability to work with little supervision while managing multiple tasks at once is also essential.
- Must be able to manage time effectively and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to plan for future projects is also essential; ability to adapt quickly when new priorities are needed is also essential.
The successful candidate’s full-time salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and includes extended health care benefits.
Work Location:
Pickering Soccer Centre, Pickering, ON, L1W 4C2 with the ability to attend field sessions across the Pickering, Durham Region and Ontario.
