Swim Nova Scotia – Quebec City, QC – 27 of Nova Scotia’s top youth and junior swimmers finished their final day of competition last night at the 2019 Speedo Eastern Canadian Swimming Championships in Quebec City at PEPS de l’Université Laval.
Top swims from the final day of competition included another medal for Sackville Waves swimmer, Natasha Sexton Quillan in the PARA women’s 50m Freestyle (bronze) and a fifth-place finish for teammate, Lucy Jardine in the youth women’s 1500m Freestyle. Hayden Bartoch (Halifax Wavecutters Aquatic Club) finished seventh in the youth men’s 200m Butterfly and tenth in the youth men’s 800m Freestyle; and Hanna Mountford (Halifax Trojan Aquatic Club) finished ninth in the senior women’s 1500m Freestyle.
The Halifax Trojan Aquatic Club was Nova Scotia’s top team, and one of Atlantic Canada’s top scoring team after the four-day competition. Overall, there were six Nova Scotia Provincial Records set throughout the weekend and four medals. Madison Bond finished third in the women’s 200m Breaststroke and Sackville’s Natasha Sexton Quillan earned one gold medal in the PARA women’s 100m Backstroke, silver in the PARA women’s 100m Freestyle and bronze in the PARA women’s 50m Freestyle.

This long course competition served as an excellent racing and development opportunity for Youth and Junior competitors. Youth age groups were 13-15 for female and 14-16 for male; Senior age groups were 16 & older for female and 17 & older for male.
