Baseball Canada – WEST PALM BEACH, FL— The Junior National Team ran into some tough pitching facing a group of prospects from the St. Louis Cardinals organization who allowed just two hits en route to an 8-0 win.
Joshua Walker (Victoria, BC) and Jaden Brown (Mississauga, ON) came up with singles as the Cardinals allowed just five base runners.
Starting pitcher Antoine Jean (Montréal, QC) was a bright spot on the mound, providing some length for the Junior National Team tossing five innings including four scoreless innings after allowing a three-run homer in the first.
GAME BREAKDOWN
-In the top of the first, Jean allowed a lead-off single before a double to left field was followed by a home run to left to put the Cardinals up, 3-0. Jean then retired the next eight batters he faced before allowing a two out single in the third inning.
-The Cardinals added to their lead with runs in the sixth and seventh innings coming on RBI singles off of reliever Viktor Bergeron (Terrebonne, QC).Â
-Eli Saul (North Vancouver, BC) tossed a scoreless eighth inning before giving up a three-run homer in the ninth.
