Alberta Bobsleigh Association (ABA) is the provincial governing body for the sport of bobsleigh and is seeking individuals to join the Board of Directors either as Board Members or as Board Treasurer.
Through it’s 40-year history ABA has developed and supported many National and Olympic bobsleigh athletes including current National athletes Taylor Austin (Beijing 2022) and Melissa Lotholz, (PyeongChang 2018 and Beijing 2022), Dawn Richardson Wilson (Beijing 2022) and past Youth Olympians.
ABA’s mandate is to promote and develop a broad interest in bobsleigh throughout Alberta, provide opportunities for all Albertans to participate in bobsleigh, and develop Albertan athletes to progress to National and International levels.
We are seeking individuals who have a passion for sport, strong communication and leadership skills and the ability to act with integrity, transparency, and accountability as well as the following specific skill sets:
- Financial management
- Policy management
- Fundraising, sponsorship, and donor engagement
- Marketing and communications
Currently the Board of Directors operates as a management board with Directors contributing to both governance and certain operational duties and are responsible for the advancement of ABA’s Mission and Vision through oversight of the organization finances, policies and resources. Board members are appointed for a 3-year term.
Board Member Responsibilities:
- Commitment to ABA Bylaws and Mission/Vision Statements
- Attendance at monthly Board meetings
- Attendance at assigned committee meetings
- Attendance at Annual General Meetings
- Support and participation in fundraising activities
- Participation in approving the annual budget, audit, annual financial report, and periodic financial statements
- Monitoring the community’s response to the organization’s programs
Time Required 2-5 hours monthly
Treasurer Specific Duties
- Organization of proper accounting records in compliance with the Societies Act and bylaws
- Developing and monitoring the association’s budget, including revenue projections and expense allocations
- Maintaining accurate financial records and preparing and distributing financial reports
- Collection and disbursement of funds, including membership and program fees and association expenses
- Preparing the annual financial statement for distribution to association members and funders, duly audited by a qualified accountant
