Swim Nova Scotia – Vancouver, B.C.-17 of Nova Scotia’s top Junior swimmers are set to race at The Mel Zajac Jr. International Swim Meet at UBC’s Aquatic Centre May 24-26, 2019.
Swimmers from various programs in Nova Scotia will be joining almost 800 swimmers from 75 teams, including Canada’s Junior Team, and the USA Junior Team. Swimmers were selected based on performances achieved throughout the season.
Team Nova Scotia has been in Vancouver participating in a week-long training camp led by Provincial Coach, Lance Cansdale and Coach, Mark McGrann. The camp has provided instruction on important training and racing techniques. Living together has exposed the swimmers to a cohesive team experience and allowed them to learn the protocols and expectations of being part of performance travel team.
The camp was also a great chance for swimmers to come together before the competition and provide the opportunity to ensure they are competing at a high level and training in preparation for the summer.
Cansdale feels that The Mel Zajac Jr. International is a great age group meet in North America; “the opportunity we have to take our younger athletes and compete against some of the best swimmers in the world in their age group is critical to their development. Racing the best swimmers is the greatest training you can have.”
