Reporting to the Director of Athletics & Recreation, the Loyalist Lancers Women’s volleyball coach is responsible for building a competitive program that adheres to the values of Loyalist College and Lancer Athletics. The incumbent must lead their team both on and off the court through extensive collaboration with members of the Athletic Department to ensure the appropriate level of services and support is provided to the Varsity team.

Season planning, community interaction, recruitment and retention are key components to the continued development of the program.  As an integral member of the Athletic Department the incumbent joins a tight-knit community of like-minded individuals who have a passion for sport and helping young adults find success in academics, athletics, and in life.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform all coaching duties consistent with the operation of a successful intercollegiate sport program, including team selection, personnel management, team and individual goal setting, practice planning, game management, recruiting and scouting.
  • Stay current with knowledge, trends and practices that are necessary to build and maintain a competitive program.
  • Maintain a high profile in the sport locally and provincially, acting as an ambassador for Loyalist College.
  • Work with the Athletics Academic Advisor to support student-athletes in their academic endeavors.
  • Participate in strategies to build networks to help student athletes become leaders in both the college and the local community.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL HAVE:

  • Strong love and passion for coaching the sport of volleyball.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of volleyball coaching systems and strategies.
  • Experience developing high performance athletes in a college and/or highly competitive setting (e.g., OVA).
  • Proven ability to identify and recruit top talent with cultural values that align to our athletics program.
  • Comprehensive understanding and application of Safe Sport principles.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally and positively with people at all levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, creative thinking, and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proven understanding of the importance of equity, diversity & inclusion.
  • Ability to facilitate groups of people and achieve individual and shared goals with a growth mindset.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, good judgment, solid decision-making and maintain ethical standards consistent with both Loyalist College and OCAA policies.

Organizational skills and time management abilities are essential. The incumbent must be result-oriented, assuming responsibility for development, implementation, and completion of projects.
