The Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) is a world class Olympic and Paralympic training environment.

CSI Pacific operates across three campus locations – Victoria, Vancouver, and Whistler – with funding provided by the Province of BC, viaSport, Own the Podium, Sport Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Canadian Paralympic Committee, and the Coaching Association of Canada.

CSI Pacific’s sport performance expertise is delivered by expert sport scientists and technical staff in partnership  with the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institute Network (COPSIN) nationally and with the viaSport Regional Alliance, which includes PacificSport Centres, provincially. By collaborating with our regional, provincial, and national sport partners, we are strengthening the sport system in British Columbia. Through these partnerships, CSI Pacific is well positioned as a national leader in Powering Performance and Inspiring Excellence, from the regional level to the international podium.

How is the Board of Directors structured?

The Board comprises a minimum of three and a maximum of twelve Directors, who are elected by the Members at a general meeting. At this time, Canadian Sport Institute Pacific is seeking candidates to fill up to three Board positions. All appointments will be for terms of three-years,  commencing at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting, scheduled for July 10, 2025.

Who is qualified to be a Director?

Understanding that the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific Board operates as a strategic policy Board, Directors should possess a majority of the following attributes:

  • Knowledge of Sport
  • Business Acumen
  • Board Experience
  • Policy Development
  • Commitment to Canadian Sport Institute’s Strategic Plan (CSI Pacific Strategic Plan)

We are also seeking Directors with expertise in the following key skills and attributes:

  • Legal / Regulatory
  • Human Resources
  • Business Leadership
  • Commercial Real Estate / Development

Directors must also meet the qualifications laid out on the Societies Act, Section 44 – Persons qualified to be directors:

  • A person is qualified to be a director of a society only if the person is an individual who is at least 18 years of age.
  • Despite subsection (1), an individual who is 16 or 17 years of age is qualified to be a director of a society if provided for in the regulations.
  • Despite subsections (1) and (2), an individual is not qualified to be a director of a society if the individual is found by any court, in Canada or elsewhere, to be incapable of managing the individual’s own affairs, unless a court, in Canada or elsewhere, subsequently finds otherwise,

(a.1) a person in respect of whom a certificate of incapability is issued under the Adult Guardianship Act, unless the certificate is subsequently cancelled under section 37 (4) of that Act, an undischarged bankrupt, or convicted in or out of British Columbia of an offence in connection with the promotion, formation or management of a corporation or unincorporated entity, or of an offence involving fraud, unless

(i) the court orders otherwise,
(ii) 5 years have elapsed since the last to occur of

(A) the expiration of the period set for suspension of the passing of sentence without a sentence having been passed,
(B) the imposition of a fine,
(C) the conclusion of the term of any imprisonment, and
(D) the conclusion of the term of any probation imposed, or

(iii) a pardon was granted or issued, or a record suspension was ordered, under the Criminal Records Act (Canada) and the pardon or record suspension, as the case may be, has not been revoked or ceased to have effect.

By completing this application, the applicant confirms that they meet the above criteria and are qualified to serve as a director.

How will Directors be selected?

The selection process has two key objectives, to ensure the Board:

  • Functions as a strategic policy Board rather than a constituency-based representative Board
  • As a whole, has the knowledge and expertise needed to fulfill the Purpose and Strategic Plan of the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific

CSI Pacific will be relying on the Governance and HR Board Committee which is comprised of no less than three (3) existing Directors to conduct the selection process.

As part of this due-diligence process, short-listed candidates will be interviewed by the Governance and HR Board Committee and reference checks will be completed. The successful candidate(s) will also be required to complete the following items, which will be organized by CSI Pacific:
