2019 Canada Cup Indoor Gets Underway in Halifax, Nova Scotia

Sport Nova Scotia – The 2019 Canada Cup Indoor will bring together Canada’s next generation of high-performance volleyball athletes to compete for their home province/territory in a true national championship.  With 10 provinces and one territory taking part, there is representation from across Canada.

Athletes selected to their respective provincial team programs will descend into Halifax to compete July 18-21, 2019. The event will feature 44 teams, including both male and female athletes on a national scale, in two divisions.

“The Canada Cup is a critical piece of the talent development process in Canada with over 300 athletes per gender within the high-performance pathway competing this week,” said Dawna Sales, Director of Athlete Pathways.  “Without our partners, including Inter Pipeline, Mizuno, Mikasa Canada, Performance Health, VolleyballStuff, Speith America, and the Government of Canada, events like this simply wouldn’t be possible.”

Jason Trepanier, Executive Director, Volleyball Nova Scotia, notes that with Canada Cup being hosted at Dalhousie University, it will be the first time many of the athletes have had the opportunity to compete in Atlantic Canada and it’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase Halifax.  “Thank you to the local support of the Volleyball Nova Scotia community, including the Halifax Regional Municipality, Sport Nova Scotia and the Gov’t of Nova Scotia.”

Matches will start on Thursday at the Dalplex and Sexton Memorial Gymnasiums and run through to the finals on Sunday.  Admission is free.
