Winnipegger Signs Professional Contract with Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Manitoba Soccer Association – Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Manitoba Soccer Association (MSA) is pleased to announce that Georges Mukumbilwa, a gifted nineteen-year-old midfielder from Winnipeg, Manitoba, has signed a professional contract with the MLS’s Vancouver Whitecaps FC first team.

 

Georges grew up in the Manitoba soccer system, playing with Portage Trail Soccer Club and the Manitoba Provincial Program during his youth career. In 2014 he was named assistant captain of his U15 Portage Trail squad and deemed player of the year for the U14 to U16 age group. He also represented Manitoba with the U15 Provincial Team at the Pacific Coast Challenge, where he was named to the Players of Distinction team during the tournament.

 

After a dominant year in Manitoba, he was asked to join the Whitecaps FC Residency in September 2014. He started 23 of 28 appearance for the U16 team during the 2015/2016 season, scoring six goals. The following year he started 20 of 28 appearances for the Whitecaps FC U18 team, adding six more goals to his resume. In his final season in the developmental academy in 2017/2018, Georges started 21 of 28 regular season matches for the U19 team, scoring eight goals.

 

He was signed to the club’s Development Squad in July of 2018 and spent the 2019 preseason with the first team.
