About the Role:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Brock Sports & Recreation the Varsity Operations Manager provides operational and administrative management to Brock University’s varsity sport programs. The incumbent will oversee the accommodations and scheduling of varsity training and competitions while ensuring each program plan complies with the required metric, benchmarks and regulations. The Varsity Operations Manager oversees, supports, and facilitates all travel arrangements, operating and fundraising budgets, purchasing of equipment, reporting, training and compliance for the Varsity Sports program.
The Varsity Operations Manager will:
- Support the development of and execution of a student-focused varsity sports program;
- Monitor all policies, procedures and guidelines that impact Brock’s varsity sports program;
- Provide guidance to coaches, as required, in understanding and complying with Brock Sports & Recreation, OUA, USPORTS and Brock University policies, procedures and guidelines;
- Provide training, orientation and support to coaches and student-athletes on program operations;
- Assist coaches in recruiting support staff as approved;
- Ensure coaches and staff have and maintain appropriate training and required certifications;
- Oversee, manage and support coaches in preparing various reports (i.e., team performance, recruiting, fundraising, student and community engagement, etc.);
- Responsible for the facilitation of equipment purchases, contracts, and facility bookings;
- Manage the planning, implementation, scheduling and coordination of all travel arrangements for approximately 200 trips annually, for student athletes, coaches, staff and recruits;
- Manage the varsity travel budget to ensure expenditures are kept in check;
- Support coaches in the development, execution and monitoring of assigned budgets;
- Oversee and manage varsity fundraising revenues and expenditures;
- Prepare and present monthly budget reports for varsity programs;
- Act as an Event Manager for various internal engagements including sport and non-sport affairs;
- Provide leadership in developing a positive and safe-sport culture, upholding the values of Brock Sports & Recreation and Brock University.
Please note: This position may require you to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Experience in sport organization and administration, preferably in a post-secondary environment;
- Strong computer competency, including knowledge of Microsoft Office;
- Experience providing high-quality customer service;
- Effective budgeting and record keeping skills with the ability to generate various reports;
- Knowledge of the Brock University environment, rules, regulations, processes, administration, OUA and USPORTS regulations and FIPPA legislation;
- Knowledge of University student-athlete policies and programs and knowledge of university sports and related events;
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate ideas and collaborate with others to achieve common outcomes;
- Ability to mentor, develop and manage staff;
- Flexible and responsive to changing needs in a dynamic and fast-paced environment;
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and propose new approaches to improve outcomes.
Preferred or Asset Skills:
- First Aid & CPR certification;
- Mental Health First Aid training;
- Knowledge of Brock’s facilities, services, contracts, and policies around use of space; and
- Knowledge of Workday software.
Salary and Total Rewards:
- Job Grade L, Salary Scale ($62,580-$107,280);
- Target Hiring Range: $62,580-$67,500
- This is a fixed-term contract that includes:

- Vacation: Up to 3 weeks per year, in addition to university holidays.
