The Montclare Youth Innovation Lab on Sports, Recreation, and Mental Health for Young Women and Girls (October 8 to November 30, 2024) is a comprehensive learning experience designed specifically for identified BIPOC girls and women ages 12 to 18, organized by Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre with support from the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) Foundation Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Grant. Montclare is an 8-week series of workshops and events, including a group outing and a design sprint. Feature speakers will lead workshops on nutrition, wellness, advocacy, education, career development and equity in sports and recreation. Montclare is being implemented in collaboration with Maison de la Francophonie, Incubator 13, Innostation, YouthNet/RéseauAdo and Ontario Network for Education (ONFE).
The Junior Achievement (JA) Company Program’s Social Impact Challenge will also be an integral part of the Montclare Lab this year, in partnership with the Ontario Network for Education (ONFE). This means that, in addition to the dedicated audience participating in person and on-line at the 7 workshops planned, a small team of 10-12 Junior Achievers will work to develop unique services and resources that addresses the issue of participation and leadership by young women and girls in various aspects of sport and recreation.
