The Canadian Orienteering Festival will take place from August 3 to 11 in various Ontario locations with over 600 athletes registered. Over nine days, there are seven championship events, including the Canadian Orienteering Championships and the North American Championships. The events include individual sprint, middle and long distance races as well as a relay race and a knock-out sprint. Seven of the races are internationally sanctioned World Ranking Events.
The events are being organized by the Toronto Orienteering Club, Ukrainian Orienteering Club and Ottawa Orienteering. Events are bring held in Mansfield, Kingston and the Calabogie Peaks Resort.
The Orienteering Canada Learning Summit is being held after the races – with educational opportunities for officials, coaches and mappers.
“Orienteering is a sport for all ages and abilities”, said Orienteering Canada Executive Director Tracy Bradley. “There are competitions for elite athletes aiming to complete for regional championships, age group championships, and open classes for recreational orienteers.”
