Beach Volleyball: Canada Reaches Semis 

June 17, 2023: Canada’s Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes are undefeated so far at the Beach Pro Tour Challenge tournament in Jurmala on the Baltic Sea in Latvia.

Melissa and Brandie (both of Toronto) were the first to book a spot in the semifinals today. The third-seeded duo started the day with a 2-0 (21-14, 21-14) round of 16 shut-out of Lithuanian pair Monika Paulikiene and Aine Raupelyte.

In the quarterfinals, Melissa and Brandie defeated Chinese qualifiers Dong Jie & Wang Fan, also in straight sets, 2-0 (22-20, 21-16). Melissa produced the match high of 20 points, including two aces, while Brandie added an impressive five kill blocks towards a 15-point total.

Home crowd favourites Anastasija Samoilova and Tina Graudina will play Canada in tomorrow’s semi at 4 am ET (11 am local).

This year, Canada will host two Beach Pro Tour events – a Challenge event in Edmonton (July 20-23) and an Elite 16 tournament in Montreal from July 26 to 30.
