January 9, 2023 – (Ottawa, ON) As we enter 2023, Sport Law would like to give thanks and extend our well wishes to team members LeeAnn Cupidio and Bruce Deacon as they move on to pursue their next adventure. In addition, we are pleased to welcome our latest team member Donny Jackson, a practising lawyer who will be supporting our clients’ growing legal needs.
LeeAnn Cupidio, LLB, joined Sport Law in 2010 after working as a criminal defense lawyer in Toronto for over eight years. As a member of our team, LeeAnn worked with sport organizations on compliance with legislation including Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and the Accessibility for Ontarians with a Disability Act (AODA). LeeAnn has also helped several NSOs with their transition under the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (NFP Act). In recent years, LeeAnn has supported many clients with investigations, mediation, arbitration, case management, and appeals.
“LeeAnn has been an integral part of the Sport Law team for the last twelve years and we are grateful for her commitment to making sport better. We look forward to staying connected and wish LeeAnn much success as she envisions the next chapter in her career. We suspect this will include running, dragon boat racing, and spending time with her family at the cottage on Lake Huron,” shared Steve Indig, Sport Law Partner.
Bruce Deacon joined the Sport Law team in 2021 adding his significant experience and expertise in high-performance sport, program development, management, and evaluation to the expanding growth of the organization. Through his work, Bruce shared his passion for the transformative power of sport while ensuring that sport organizations have the structures and strategies needed to achieve their mission.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to have worked with Bruce over the past few years. We were impressed by his ability to transform ideals into inspired action. Our team looks forward to seeing what comes next for Bruce as he expands his personal business,” shared Dina Bell-Laroche, Sport Law Partner.
In addition to saying goodbye to LeeAnn and Bruce, the Sport Law team welcomes Donald Jackson, B.A. (Hons)., J.D. who joined Sport Law in the fall of 2022. Donny brings a wide variety of litigation, governance, and client experience to his practice, advising clients across several legal and litigation disciplines at Sport Law.
