Results Day 6 Canada Games

St. Catharine’s, ON– Four Nova Scotia swimmers wrapped up competition today at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in St. Catharine’s, ON with the Open Water event.

Owen Nicholson was Nova Scotia’s top swimmer with a very close fourth place finish on the male side; teammate Ethan Kershaw finished in fifteenth place. Éadaoin McGrath was Nova Scotia’s top female swimmer finishing in tenth place, followed by Isobel McBride.

Coaches Mark McGrann and Lance Cansdale were both very pleased with Owen’s performance today. “Owen gave it all that he had for the entire race – it was a hard-fought battle” said Owen’s personal Coach, McGrann.

Coach Cansdale added “It was a tough field with experienced competitors from across the Country, but Owen persevered throughout the entire race.”

“I gave it all I had for the entire race” said the 17-year-old Nicholson from Halifax. “I learned a lot from the recent National Open Water Camp in Spain that I had the opportunity to attend with Coach Mark; I had a lot of race strategies that I was focusing on that helped me get through today’s race”.

The swim team wrapped up the competition with a seventh-place finish overall. Keilen Bellis earned two gold medals for Nova Scotia in the men’s 50m and 100m Breaststroke this week. Overall, the team achieved many personal best times and some swimmers achieved National qualification standards.  Lead Coach, Lance Cansdale was very pleased with the team. “I feel that the learning opportunities and posting of positive results in a very competitively challenging environment will serve these young swimmers down the road.  At the very least each swimmer on our squad should feel that they belong at this level of competition and can race with the best young talent in the rest of the country.”

The Nova Scotia swim team is comprised of 21 able bodied swimmers (9 male and 12 female), and four Canadian Special Olympians.
