Beijing 2022: Team Canada at the end of Day 6

BEIJING (February 10, 2022) Day 6 at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games has come to a close. Here is what you need to know.

TEAM CANADA INSIGHTS:

TEAM CANADA

  • Canada has won four medals (2 silver, 2 bronze) on Day 6 at Beijing 2022. Matches Turin 2006 (2 silver, 2 bronze) for the most number of medals won on a Day 6.

ALPINE SKIING

  • Jack Crawford won Canadas first-ever Olympic medal in the mens alpine combined event. Alpine combined (one downhill run + one slalom run) replaced the combined (one downhill run + two slalom runs) starting at Vancouver 2010.

FREESTYLE SKIING

  • Marion Thnault, Miha Fontaine and Lewis Irving won bronze in the Olympic debut of the mixed team aerials event.
  • It is Canadas first Olympic aerials medal since Veronica Brenner and Deidra Dionne won silver and bronze, respectively, in the womens event at Salt Lake City 2002.

SNOWBOARD

  • Eliot Grondin won Canadas second-ever Olympic medal in mens snowboard cross. The other was also a silver won by Mike Robertson at Vancouver 2010.
  • Brooke DHondt (16), Team Canadas youngest athlete at Beijing 2022, made her Olympic debut on Day 5 and placed 10th in womens snowboard halfpipe.

SPEED SKATING

  • Isabelle Weidemann won her second medal at Beijing 2022 it is Canadas first medal in the womens 5000m long track speed skating event since Vancouver 2010.
  • She is only the third Canadian ever to win a medal in the womens 5000m event (Clara Hughes, Cindy Klassen).

COVID-19 UPDATE:

Currently none of the 495 members of the Team Canada delegation in Beijing are in COVID-19 isolation.
