Wrestling Canada Lutte (WCL) is proud to announce the athletes and support staff that will represent Canada at the U17 World Championships, Aug. 19-25 in Amman, Jordan. Canada will send eight athletes, three in women’s wrestling and five in men’s freestyle.
“Canada is sending a small but experienced contingent of wrestlers to the World U17 Championships,” said Chris Woodcroft, WCL High Performance Director. “The wrestlers, for the most part, have proven themselves internationally at the Pan-American (Pan-Am) level and will now have the opportunity to measure themselves against the best in the world. The U17’s is a stepping stone to both our junior and senior teams and will provide a valuable experience in their wrestling careers.”
On the women’s side, Winnipeg’s Kaura Coles will be in action at 53kg. Coles, who captured gold at this year’s Pan-Am Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, will be competing in her first World Championship. She will look to build on her continental success, she also won a Pan-Am silver medal in 2022, as she rises to the next level.
The men’s side will also feature a 2024 Pan-Am gold medalist in Abbotsford, British Columbia’s Michaeljeet Grewal. Grewal, successfully defended his gold medal at 92kg in Santo Domingo. Now, the two-time Pan-Am gold medalist will aim to capture a medal on the world stage.
