World Champion Highlights Wrestling Field at 2025 Canada Games

ST. JOHN’S, NL— More than 250 wrestlers are set to compete at the 2025 Canada Summer Games when the event gets underway from Glacier Arena, in St. John’s. The three-day event will run from Aug. 21-23 and feature both a team and individual competition for both men’s freestyle and women’s wrestling.

“The Canada Summer Games is a truly unique and special event for our sport—it only comes around every four years and offers an incredible opportunity for athletes 18 and under to showcase their talents on a national stage,” said Tamara Medwidsky, CEO, Wrestling Canada Lutte (WCL). “What sets this event apart is its combination of both individual and team competitions, giving athletes the chance to compete not only for personal success but also as part of a provincial or territorial team—something that adds a powerful sense of camaraderie and pride that we don’t often see at our other national-level events. Wrestling Canada Lutte is proud to work with Canada Games to deliver this event and wishes all the competitors the best of luck!”

This year’s field will be a strong one with many individuals having already represented Canada internationally. Leading the list is Narin, Ontario’s Kaura Coles. Coles became Canada’s first women’s U17 World Champion when she accomplished the feat in 2024. Coles also won the U20 53kg National Championship in 2025.

Also, competing on the women’s side will be Surrey, British Columbia’s Khushi Jhalli. Jhalli won a U17 Pan-American (Pan-Am) Championships silver medal in 2024 and the U17 69kg National Championship in 2025.

Calgary’s Clara Perry will enter the competition with momentum behind her. After winning the U17 53kg National Championship in 2025, she captured bronze at the U17 Pan-Am Championships.

On the men’s side, Abbotsford, British Columbia’s Jagroop Dhinsa will be a name to watch at 120kg. Dhinsa is a two-time U17 Pan-American Championships silver medalist (2023 and 2024).

Also representing Team BC will be 2025 U17 Pan-Am silver medalist Harjot Shergill. Shergill from Langley, British Columbia went the distance in the 92kg gold-medal and narrowly missed out on a gold on criteria.

Ontario will also have a strong contingent including Toronto’s Jonrex Casa. Casa also won a silver medal at this year’s U17 Pan-Ams following his win at 51kg the U17 National Championships.

These will be just some of the talented wrestlers in action. With both individual and team titles on the line, the action will be can’t miss. For complete information, including schedules, results, tickets and more, visit: https://www.2025canadagames.ca/.

About Wrestling at the Canada Games

Freestyle wrestling appeared in the first Canada Games in 1967. Originally a winter sport, wrestling was first featured in the Canada Summer Games in 1989. The 2005 Canada Summer Games in Regina marked the first Canada Games to feature a women’s wrestling competition. There will be 11 weigh classes for both men and women at the 2025 Canada Games. The team competition will see two pools of competition with the teams competing in a round robin to determine rankings. The teams will then cross over with the corresponding teams competing for final ranking  i.e., 1st team from pool A vs. 1st team from pool B, to determine overall 1st and 2nd team placing, etc. Wrestling will take place Aug. 21-23 at Glacier Arena.
