Women’s youth team falls to Brazil at Worlds

Volleyball Canada – September 10, 2019:  Brazil capitalized on Canada’s errors today to win 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-19) in the round of 16 at the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship (September 5 to 14) in Egypt.

Canada had a fighting start, taking a very early lead, but could not hold back the Brazilians in the long run.

“We came out with good focus today and had our best start of the tournament,” said head coach Scott Koskie.  “We were having success with our game plan and generating some opportunities to score points, but could not capitalize consistently later in the set. We had our chances in the middle and later part of the third set to move in front, but again could not take advantage. We will head to Cairo tomorrow and continue to work and improve.”

Canada will now play to be classified from places nine to 16 out of 20 teams entered in the tournament. The Canadian team’s next match is against Bulgaria on Thursday, September 12.
