Windsor to host FINA Artistic Swimming World Series Super Final

Ottawa, Ontario – January 30, 2020 – The top artistic swimmers in the world will be coming to Windsor, Ontario next June. The FINA Artistic Swimming World Series (ASWS) Super Final will be held June 18-20, 2020 at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre.

After eight FINA ASWS international competitions, held in France, Egypt, Greece, Hungary, Russia, China, Spain and the USA, the first 12-ranked National Federations in each category will qualify for the Super Final. It will feature athletes competing in Technical and Free Routines in the Solo, Duet, Mixed Duet and Team events, as well as the Team Highlights and Free Combination routines. It will conclude with an engaging and highly entertaining non-competitive Gala Water Show.

“We are excited to host the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series Super Final here in Canada,” said Judi Enns Bradette, President, Canada Artistic Swimming. “Many of the athletes who will compete in Windsor will be challenging for top spots at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games, including our own Canadian team. Windsor has everything to make this a truly special competition for everyone: a world-class facility; wonderful support from the community; and our Ontario Artistic Swimming partners. We know that it will be a memorable experience for the fans to see the very best of our sport.”

“We look forward to welcoming the finest artistic swimmers from around the world to our state-of-the-art facilities at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “I want to thank FINA for putting their trust in us once again to deliver a world-class event and giving our residents the chance to cheer for future Olympians. This exciting competition will no doubt inspire the next generation of artistic swimmers.”

Ontario Artistic Swimming will assemble a knowledgeable volunteer team from club resources in Ontario to assist with the execution of the competition. One objective of the organizers is to stimulate the development of a local artistic swimming club in Windsor as a legacy.

“Hosting an event like the Super Final has the potential to stimulate local participation through increased community awareness and interest in our sport,” said Ruth Belcher, President, Ontario Artistic Swimming.

Canada Artistic Swimming, who will host the event in conjunction with Ontario Artistic Swimming, co-ordinated the timing and location of the event with USA Synchro, who is hosting the 8th FINA ASWS event, the America Open, June 12-14, 2020 at the Oakland University Recreation & Athletic Center in Rochester, Michigan.

As Enns Bradette explained,

“This collaboration creates a terrific environment for the athletes, with minimal travel expense and jetlag issues, and will also encourage spectators and international media to plan to attend both events.”

“Together, our organizations have provided the best Artistic Swimming joint event opportunity possible. With our events separated by a short 45-minute drive and air travel into major airports we look forward to hosting FINA and the Artistic Swimming community”, said Adam Andrasko, CEO, USA Synchro. “We are poised to host a great event in the U.S. and the Super Final will be nothing short of incredible.”

The competition schedule, ticket pricing and additional information about the FINA ASWS Super Final will be announced closer to the time of the event. Details will be available on the event page at https://artisticswimming.ca/event/2020-fina-world-series-super-final/
