Wheelchair Sports Alberta set to host Junior West Championship

(OTTAWA, ONT.) – The top junior wheelchair basketball athletes from Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan will compete in the Junior West Championship, March 28-29, 2025, at the Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge, in Calgary.

The Junior West Championship is a fully inclusive tournament, bringing together athletes of all abilities to compete. This 4×4 event, sanctioned by Wheelchair Basketball Canada (WBC) and presented by Wheelchair Sports Alberta, serves as the second competition in the Canada Games cycle. The 2027 Canada Winter Games is scheduled for Quebec City from February 27 to March 14, 2027.

As part of the event, a NextGen Development Camp will be held on Sunday, March 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. MDT. Led by NextGen Player Development and Recruitment Coordinator Jesse McNalley, the camp is free and open to athletes aged 24 and under (as of December 31, 2027) and coaches.

Fans and media are welcome to attend the tournament, with exciting opportunities to witness the action firsthand. Media can capture visuals during the games, and athletes and coaches will be available for post-game interviews. The gold medal game will take place on Saturday, March 29, beginning at 3 p.m. MDT.

  • Gold medal game Saturday, March 29, starting at 3 p.m. MDT

Where: Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge (11300 Rocky Ridge Rd NW, Calgary, Alta. T3G 5H3)

Games will be live streamed on the WBC and WSA YouTube channels.
