Triathlon Canada Joining Abuse-Free Sport on January 1, 2023

VICTORIA—Triathlon Canada is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement to join Abuse-Free Sport, the new independent program to prevent and address maltreatment in sport.

Triathlon Canada, and its stakeholders, will have access to the services of the Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner (OSIC), which serves as the central hub of Abuse-Free Sport, following a transition period which will end no later than January 1, 2023.

“Triathlon Canada supports athletes in reaching their Olympic and Paralympic performance goals, and we also hope to inspire all Canadians who want to discover the sport of triathlon. No matter where the start line is, a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment are instrumental in the future growth and success of our sport,” said Joe Morissette, chief executive officer, Triathlon Canada. “We all have a role to play in ensuring the pursuit of excellence in triathlon is safe and enjoyable. Signing this agreement to join the Abuse-Free Sport program is another positive step Triathlon Canada is taking in its continued commitment to ensure the Canadian triathlon community is a safer and more protective environment for all participants, coaches, volunteers, officials and fans to enjoy.”

During the transition period, Triathlon Canada is completing full adoption of the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS), which it must do before it can become part of the Abuse-Free Sport program and making the required policy changes.

Prior to January 1, 2023, Triathlon Canada participants who have experienced or witnessed abuse will continue to have access to independent third-party services through the following independent third party:

Independent Third Party: Integrity Group
Case Manager: Heather MacKenzie
Email: integrity@telus.net
Phone: (604) 689-4244
