April 28, 2019: Canada finished with three top-ten teams at the 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Xiamen Four Star Open in China.

Brazil’s Ana Patricia Silva Ramos and Rebecca Cavalcanti Barbosa Silva broke the winning streak of the current world number one team, Heather Bansley (Waterdown, ON) and Brandie Wilkerson (Toronto, ON), in the quarterfinals on Saturday beating Canada 2-0 (21-19, 21-17). The Brazilians went on to win gold today (Sunday).

Americans Sara Hughes and Summer Ross defeated 2018 Xiamen Open champions Canadians Melissa Humana-Paredes (Toronto, ON) and Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON), 2-0 (23-21, 21-16) also in the quarterfinals.

Both Canadian female teams finish the tournament in fifth.

On the men’s side, Canada’s Sam Pedlow (Barrie, ON) and Sam Schachter (Richmond Hill) battled Anders Berntsen Mol and Christian Sandlie Sørum of Norway, only to fall 2-0 (29–27, 21–19) to be eliminated Saturday, and finish ninth overall.
