Three Canadians to Compete in Junior Pan American Games

OTTAWA, ON – Three Canadian archers have been nominated to Team Canada to compete at the Junior Pan American Games, taking place in Asuncion, Paraguay from August 10 to 12. The team was selected using the Internal Nomination Procedure and the nominations were upheld by a Selection Ratification Panel. Those nominations were then submitted to the Canadian Olympic Committee and they have approved the three athletes to attend the event.

The team selected is as follows:

Recurve Men

  • Kurtis Ng

Recurve Women

  • Janna Hawash
  • Kylie Oliver

Staff

  • Kylah Cawley

Ng has represented Canada before, at the Limerick 2023 World Archery Youth Championships (WAYC), the San Salvador 2024 Youth and Masters Pan American Championships (YMPAC), and most recently at the Medellin 2025 South American Open. Hawash competed alongside Ng in Medellin, winning herself a bronze medal in her category. She also shot in Limerick and San Salvador, as well as the Halifax 2022 YMPAC. Oliver also has a bronze medal to her name that came from the San Salvador event.

The Junior Pan Am Games present a unique opportunity for athletes to qualify for the 2027 Pan Am Games, to be held in Lima, Peru. The winner of the Junior PAG will receive a direct athlete quota for the 2027 Games, meaning the athlete who wins the Gold is the athlete who would earn the spot to the Games, see here for more information: https://www.panamsports.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/Qualification-System-Manual-V8.pdf

While this may be a small team, it features promising young archers who hold a great deal of talent. The Junior Pan American Games are a youth version of the continental event, held every four years. This is the second edition of the event and is exclusively for athletes under the age of 21.
