The Tournament Features the Top Blind Hockey Players on the Planet Competing in Best-on-Best Competition in Advance of the IIHF World Junior Ice Hockey Championships

The Blind Hockey League (BHL) is proud to announce that the 2024 Carnegie Cup is coming to TD Place Arena in Ottawa, Ontario from December 20th to 22nd 2024. The event takes place in conjunction with the pre-tournament games of the 2025 IIHF World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and is hosted in partnership with Hockey Canada and Canadian Blind Hockey.

The Blind Hockey League (BHL) is a player-led initiative to establish the world’s first professional league for Blind Hockey players, and the Carnegie Cup will showcase the best Blind Hockey players on the planet competing in a three-game series.   All games are open to the public and free to attend, hockey fans in Ottawa are asked to register to receive complimentary admission.

“Hockey Canada is thrilled to partner with the BHL and Canadian Blind Hockey to showcase the para sport of Blind Ice Hockey leading up to the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa,” said Dean McIntosh, senior vice-president of revenue, fan experience and community impact for Hockey Canada. “Hockey Canada is committed to making the sport more inclusive for all Canadians and we know the great fans in the nation’s capital will be treated to an excellent series that demonstrates an elite form of adapted hockey ahead of one of the most prestigious international hockey tournaments.”

“The Blind Hockey League brings together the best Blind Hockey players to form one elite league, allowing for more international participation as we grow the Para sport worldwide,” said Dan Schramm, Chairman Board of Directors of the BHL/BHLPA. “This event will showcase the skill level of our elite athletes and inspire fans to show that hockey truly is for everyone.”

The Blind Hockey League aims to partner with organizations to create a league for the best Blind Hockey players across the globe to play the game at the highest level possible. The BHL’s Carnegie Cup plans to get the attention of the hockey world and brands to buy into this movement and to help create a professional Blind Hockey league.

BHL Carnegie Cup Schedule:

Game 1: Friday December 20 – 3:30pm – 6:00pm

Game 2: Saturday December 21 – 11:15am – 1:15pm

Game 3: Sunday December 22 – 9 :00am – 11:00am

Location: TD Place 1015 Bank St, Ottawa, ON K1S 5J3

The BHL will feature the three-game series via their YouTube page.

The para sport of Blind Ice Hockey is played by athletes who are blind or partially sighted using an adapted puck that is larger than a traditional puck and makes noise.

The Carnegie Cup was created in 2023 and named after the late Herb Carnegie, a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee who faced racial discrimination and used his experience to change the culture of our game. A lesser-known part of Herb’s legacy is that he lost his vision later in life and inspired Blind Hockey player Mark DeMontis to found the organization that would become Canadian Blind Hockey.  The two team names – Aces and Mercurys – are named after his first two professional teams in his honour.

Please register your attendance for free here so the Blind Hockey League can plan for capacity ahead of this free event.
