Team Canada’s Athletics Squad Grows Ahead of Paris 2024

Canadian athletes got some exciting news, today, following World Athletics’ reallocation process.

Kate Current, Briana Scott and Craig Thorne have been nominated by Athletics Canada to the Canadian Olympic Committee today, to compete at the Olympic Games in Paris this summer. They join the athletes nominated earlier this week.

In addition, Jacqueline Madogo was nominated to compete in the 100 metres, having already been nominated to compete in the 200 metres.

Kate Current finished second in the women’s 1500 metres at the Bell Track & Field Trials last week. 2023 was a year of firsts, as she set a personal best time at her first World Athletics Championships, in addition to competing in her first Pan American Games.

Briana Scott re-joins Team  Canada after competing at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

Craig Thorne won his second national title at the Bell Track & Field Trials last week, taking gold in the men’s 110 metre hurdles, successfully defending his crown from 2023. Last year, he also advanced to the final of the 110 metre hurdles at the NACAC U23 Championships.

Prior to being named to Team Canada, all nominations are subject to approval by the Canadian Olympic Committee’s Team Selection Committee following its receipt of nominations by all National Sport Organizations.
