Cheerleading in Canada has transformed into a high-performance sport with a strong and growing national presence. Governed by Cheer Canada, the sport now boasts over 30,000 athletes from coast to coast, participating in youth, scholastic, collegiate, and all-star programs.
The sport’s rapid growth can be attributed not only to its exciting, high-energy routines but also to its unique ability to develop athletes holistically. Cheerleading demands a combination of strength, agility, discipline, and artistry, but it also fosters leadership, confidence, and teamwork in ways few other sports do. It thrives in a team-based environment that is inclusive and supportive, welcoming athletes of varying skill levels and backgrounds.
While the sport continues to expand its reach among diverse communities, it remains one of the most female-dominated athletic arenas in Canada. Cheerleading empowers young women through sport, providing a platform where they can excel physically and mentally while building life and leadership skills.
Canada has proudly participated in the International Cheer Union’s World Cheerleading Championship for over 20 years, and our 2025 season marks the nation’s best podium results to date—a historic achievement that reflects the dedication and progress of Canadian cheerleading on the international stage. As recognition and competitive opportunities increase—both nationally and internationally—Canadian cheerleading is poised for even greater growth, inspiring the next generation of athletes and leaders.
Cheer Canada extends sincere appreciation to all volunteers, sponsors, the ICU and the Canadian cheer community who helped make this season possible.
