Team Canada Seventh in Guadalajara

Montréal, April 4, 2025 – Amélie-Laura JasminKatelyn FungBenjamin Tessier, and Carson Paul teamed up on Friday evening for the first World Cup finals of the season, in Guadalajara, Mexico. The Canadian foursome amassed 364.75 points and took seventh place in the team event.

The Chinese squad won the gold medal with 489.10 points, while Italy (416.45) and Germany (396.20) finished second and third, respectively.

Jasmin and Paul moved the country into seventh place halfway through the competition, thanks to their combined score of 177.30 on the 3m springboard after three dives.

Fung then took to the platform for her individual dive, where she earned 73.60 points, the second-best score of the round.

Tessier earned 44.55 points before joining forces with Fung for the synchronized competition, where they cemented the Canadian team’s seventh-place finish.

“The team events are always a lot of fun. They’re very exciting, and we all cheer each other on. It’s a very positive atmosphere, and it’s always fun to dive as a team with your friends,” said Fung.

“Everyone gets along really well, and we have great chemistry. Personally, I’m very happy. It wasn’t my best performance, but I’ve improved since last season, especially on a technical level,” added Jasmin.

A confident comeback for Mia Vallée

A little earlier, Mia Vallée concluded the 3m preliminaries in fourth place with 314.10 points, in a competition that was dominated by China’s Yiwen Chen (344.40). The Montrealer will therefore advance to Sunday’s finals. In the same event, Jasmin finished 20th, with a score of 240.75.

“I’m so happy! I know it wasn’t perfect. I’ve been struggling with my entries all week. They haven’t been as good as I’ve wanted, but they’ve been very consistent. I’ve been working hard on them this year. Even when I thought I was diving well, I often got overexcited too quickly, so I wanted to be more consistent. It’s been good for my confidence,” explained Vallée.

The diver had the good fortune of having Canadian coach Hui Tong by her side this week. Vallée made a point of singing his praises after the qualifiers.

“The coach I usually train with isn’t here, so I was feeling quite nervous. But Hui was amazing all week! We communicated really well, and he always said exactly what I needed to hear after my dives. It was great,” she said.

On the men’s side, Tessier qualified for the 10m platform finals after placing sixth in the qualification rounds, with 407.00 points. In the same competition, Matt Cullen of Rosemère finished 18th (360.35).

In the women’s preliminaries on Thursday, Ottawa’s Kate Miller ranked eighth on the tower with 281.75 points, earning a pass to Saturday’s finals. Fung finished 21st in the qualifiers, with 243.60 points.

In the men’s individual 3m competition, Paul finished 27th with a score of 280.40 and will not advance to the finals.

Saturday’s program includes the women’s 3m synchronized and 10m platform finals, as well as the men’s individual and synchronized 3m finals.
