Team Canada off to Germany for 2025 FISU Summer World University Games

On Wednesday, Team Canada will return to FISU’s biggest stage, as they head to the 2025 FISU Summer World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany. The event is set to run from July 16-27, with events held throughout the region. (Note that swimming will be held in Berlin.)
Led by chef de mission Karla Karch, an Olympian and the athletic director at Mount Royal, Team Canada will consist of 125 athletes, supported by 55 staff, to the event, and will compete in nine sports: archery, artistic gymnastics, athletics, badminton, rhythmic gymnastics, rowing, swimming, table tennis and taekwondo. The full list is included after this release.
The team includes representatives from 38 of the 58 U SPORTS member schools, with Western’s 18 athletes and two staff members leading the way. Toronto is also in double figues, with two staff members and ten athletes heading to Germany.
This will be the first appearance for Canada at a Summer World University Games since Naples 2019, after missing the 2021 games (which were postponed to 2023 due to COVID) in Chengdu, China, and the cancellation of the 2023 games, which had been set for Ekaterinburg, Russia. Canada picked up six medals in 2019, one gold, one silver and four bronze.
Recaps of Team Canada’s progress through each day will be available on USPORTS.ca and on Instagram at @USPORTSinternational.
