Swimming Canada Welcomes New and Returning Board Members

Swimming Canada’s members have elected two new representatives to the organization’s Board of Directors.

The Hon. Carla Qualtrough, a decorated Paralympic swimmer and former federal Cabinet Minister, and Suzanne Wecakend, an educator, former national team athlete, and experienced sport leader, are joining the board after being elected at the Annual General Meeting.

They were elected to three-year terms, as was returning board member Zack Chetrat. Sue Owen will continue as president.

“We are thrilled to welcome Carla and Suzanne to our Board, and to continue working with Zack in his renewed role,” Owen said. “Their unique experiences, knowledge and passion for sport will bring tremendous value to our organization as we continue to build the future of Canadian swimming.”

Owen also acknowledged the contributions of outgoing directors Tehani Mott and Dawn Wilson, who chose not to stand for re-election.

“We are extremely grateful to Tehani and Dawn for their years of service and dedication helping guide Swimming Canada through important periods of growth and change,” she said.

CEO Suzanne Paulins also welcomed the new board members.

“I look forward to working closely with Carla, Suzanne, and Zack as we continue to grow and strengthen our organization. Their leadership and experience will help advance our priorities, support our athletes, and ensure Canadian swimming thrives at every level,” Paulins said.
