Suncor’s Petro-Canada Renews National Partnership with the Coaching Association of Canada

Petro-Canada, proudly owned by Suncor, has extended its longstanding partnership with the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC). For more than 20 years, Petro-Canada has supported and celebrated the contributions of coaches in Canada.

The renewed partnership includes the continuation of two key programs: Petro-Canada’s Fuelling Athlete and Coaching Excellence (FACE) program and the Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Awards.

“We are thrilled to extend our exceptional partnership with Petro-Canada,” said Lorraine Lafrenière, Chief Executive Officer of the CAC. “This commitment helps us celebrate and strengthen the coaching community and empower leaders who make a lasting impact in sport and beyond.”

“Coaches motivate, guide and build the foundation for athletes to succeed both on and off the field of play,” said Patrick Ritchie, VP of Sales & Marketing for Petro-Canada. “Continuing to support the Coaching Association of Canada reflects our ongoing commitment to coaches, who inspire excellence and shape the future of sport in communities across Canada.”

Programs:

Fuelling Athlete and Coaching Excellence (FACE) program

Every year, 55 up-and-coming athletes and their coaches are selected to receive a $10,000 grant through the FACE program. Grants are given to athletes when they need it most – when they are striving to represent Canada at the Paralympic or Olympic Games but don’t yet qualify for government funding. The funds support coaches for their coaching education, travel and other expenses. Since 1988, Petro-Canada has supported more than 3,500 athletes and coaches and provided $14 million in funding through the FACE program. The 2025 FACE grant recipients will be announced in September.

Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Awards

These prestigious awards recognize coaches who have supported their athlete or team to a medal-winning performance at a world championships event, the Olympic or Paralympic Games, or the Special Olympics World Games. Recipients of the Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Awards have dedicated their time and efforts to ensuring athletes reach their potential on the international stage. Since 1986, the CAC and Petro-Canada have honoured 1,512 coaches with this award.
