Sport for life announces Dorota Blumczyńska as 2022 Summit keynote

Dorota Blumczyńska has been named as a keynote speaker for the 2022 Sport for Life Canadian Summit. A long-time refugee advocate and current CEO of the Manitoba Museum, she will bring powerful insights into accomplishing inclusivity and community cohesion through the COVID-19 pandemic and into the future.

In her role at the museum, Blumczyńska supports a team which has long partnered with Indigenous communities including the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, in the co-creation of exhibits, the collection of artifacts and specimens, and the reclamation of Indigenous languages and skills; actions taken by the Manitoba Museum in its commitment to advancing the TRC Calls to Action. Under Dorota’s leadership, the Manitoba Museum will further this important work while inviting ever more diverse communities to share their stories and histories with the Museum and one another. Bringing communities together and inspiring visitors to live in harmony with the world that surrounds them is the work that she most passionately lends her heart and skills to.

“Having fled an oppressive regime in Poland as a child, living in a refugee camp in Eastern Germany and being resettled to Canada, together with over a decade spent working with refugees in Winnipeg, Dorota is uniquely qualified to speak about some of the social inequities we face and how we can address them within the sport system. Her words ― written or spoken ― are inspiring,” said Carolyn Trono, Sport for Life’s Director of Quality Sport.

The theme for the 2022 Summit is Reflect. Reconnect. Reimagine. The event will be hosted simultaneously in several communities across the country on May 11 and 12.
