Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) is pleased to announce the Senior Women’s National Team racing at both World Rowing Cups this June. The team begins a new Olympic quadrennial on the international stage with five (5) rowers set to represent Canada in the women’s coxless four and women’s single in Varese, Italy and Lucerne, Switzerland.
The team’s international campaign begins at the World Rowing Cup – Varese, taking place from June 13 to 15. The Canadian crews will then continue their season at the World Rowing Cup – Lucerne, from June 27 to 29. With both regattas featuring strong international fields, these events serve as valuable benchmarks as the team builds towards long-term goals.
National Team rower Katie Clark, who last competed in the women’s quad sculls at the Final Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta in May 2024, is now taking on the challenge of the women’s single. Having had knee surgery this past winter, Katie shared her excitement to start the season and race the single internationally for the first time.
“I’m really excited for this opportunity. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, but wasn’t sure it was going to happen this year, given my knee surgery in December. However, with hard work, it’s become a reality. I feel like this Olympic cycle is about building on performances and setting the foundation, and this is an awesome opportunity for me to do that.”
One of the newest additions to the senior team, Saskatchewan’s Brenna Randall, will make her Senior International Team debut this summer. “I’m incredibly proud to be selected for my first World Cup team,” shared Brenna.“Training at the National Training Centre has pushed me to new levels, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent Canada on the world stage. I’m excited to see how we stack up against international competition and keep building as a team.”
Heading into the World Cups this June, the team is focused on building international experience and athlete development. Women’s Lead Coach, Tom Morris, emphasized the importance of this opportunity.
“As most of our athletes haven’t raced internationally for over a year, we’re looking for performances that reflect technical progress, rather than a specific finish position. We aspire to be a strong podium program in Los Angeles in 2028, and we’re making sure this season lays the right foundation both on and off the water to realize that.”
Canada’s own Mélanie Bryce of Ottawa Rowing Club will be joining the team in Varese, Italy, as a World Rowing certified international umpire. Mélanie will be one of many umpires at the event to oversee the athletes’ safety and ensure fairness across the competition.
With the women’s team preparing to compete in the World Rowing Cup circuit, RCA is also focused on building momentum in the men’s program. “As the women depart, we’re running a combined men’s camp at Shawnigan Lake and have an under 23 and senior women’s camp underway,” said RCA’s High Performance Director, Adam Parfitt. “We will be supporting several men’s crews to go to the Holland Beker and the Henley Royal Regatta later in the month. These camps and regattas will offer important racing experience that’s essential for development and progression at the senior level.”
The Koninklijke Holland Beker Regatta will take place June 28–29 in Amsterdam, Netherlands with the Henley Royal Regatta following from July 1–6 in Henley-on-Thames, England.
