Ottawa, ON – Canada’s Nikola Samardzic captured Taekwondo Canada’s first ever silver medal at the Cadet World Taekwondo Tournament in Fujairah, UAE. Samardzic achieved the silver medal with wins in four straight matches before losing a tightly contested gold medal match to Kazakhstan 2-1.
Samardzic said of his silver medal, “Being second in the world feels incredible and I’m proud of how far we’ve come. But it also makes me reflect on what I need to improve on and how I could have pushed through to secure that gold.” Samardzic added “I’ve learned a lot from this experience and I’m more motivated than ever to train harder and come back stronger. Being part of Team Canada was amazing, and I loved representing my country and being part of such a great team.”
Team Canada Coach Radomir Samardzic praised Nikola saying “It was an absolute honour to represent Team Canada at the Cadet World Championships alongside such an incredible team of athletes, coaches, staff and parents. It was an unforgettable event and I’m proud to have been part of a team that showed such passion, resilience and respect. And of course, a big congratulations to Nikola for his incredible performance. His incredible focus, fight and intelligence inspired us all.”
