2020 Hempel World Cup Series Miami
Another Miami in the books! The 2020 Hempel World Cup Series wrapped up last week leaving sailors with a lot of mixed emotions.
Canada officially qualified itself a country berth for the 2020 Olympics in the 470 Men, after duo Jacob Chaplin-Saunders and Oliver Bone beat Mexico sitting in 23rd overall.
The pressure was on for our Laser sailors, as five Canadians competed in the medal race on Saturday. CSDS member, Hugh Macrae led the fleet for most of the race and was able to score a 3rd place finish, putting him in 6th overall, right behind his teammate, Robert Davis. While the sailors pushed through, Trinidad and Tobago took the lead, taking the last country spot for Tokyo 2020.
In the Finn, CSDS, Kyle Martin stood on the podium next to his American opponents, taking home a silver medal.
In the RS:X, Olympian, Nikola Girke battled it out in the medal race with a 2nd place finish capping off the event in 4th overall.Â
