The 2019 Bermuda International Invitational Race Week (BIIRW) took place last month from April 27th – May 3rd in Bermuda. Completing 10 races throughout the week, the crew of Chester from Nova Scotia, provided tough competition for other sailors.

The conditions during the regatta were sunny with light winds ranging from 6 knots at the beginning of the event to 10 knots at the end.

Requirement to Hold Advanced Cruising Certification for Liveaboard teaching

Policy relaxation for 2019.
It is a policy of the Learn to Cruise and Power system that Instructors hold Advanced Cruising as a student in order to deliver liveaboard Cruising (Sail) courses leading to any certification level. This spring Sail Canada has been involved in conversations that indicated that a number of schools were unaware of this requirement. The Cruising Subcommittee has considered the potential relaxation of this requirement, on either a temporary or permanent basis. The result of these discussions is that the policy should remain in force as there are good reasons to demand completion of training and demonstration of skills beyond those expected of entry level instructors and evaluated in entry level instructor development programs (Start Keelboat and Basic Cruise).
