Paralympian Sasha (Boulton) Beck Elected to Triathlon Canada’s Board of Directors to Help Guide New Era for National Sport Body

VICTORIA—Accomplished triathlete, professional engineer and mother, Sasha Beck, will lead her peer group to help shape the future of the Triathlon Canada Nation as a member of the national sport body’s Board of Directors.

Beck retired from triathlon after guiding Christine Robbins in the sport’s Paralympic debut at Rio de Janeiro 2016. She continues to coach and mentor youth and adult athletes in the sport in Ontario in addition to her full-time career in the energy industry where she brings her expertise as an engineer to Enbridge Gas Inc. Operational Change Management team.

“I am very excited to serve as Athlete Director on the Board of Directors and make a positive impact on our organization,” said Beck, who is a mother to a twin girl and boy. “I am eager to contribute my insights and work collaboratively with the Board to align with Triathlon Canada’s vision and the athlete’s best interests.  Volunteering in the community has always been a passion of mine, and as Triathlon Canada has always supported my sporting career, I am eager to give back to the organization, and help the next generation of athletes achieve their full potential.”

Beck is no stranger to triathlon’s athlete development pathway in Canada. She grew up in the sport, racing at the club, provincial, national and international scene for Triathlon Ontario and Triathlon Canada. A high achiever – both on the playing field and in the classroom – Beck graduated from Biomedical Engineering (B.Eng) at the University of Guelph where she was also part of the varsity swim team.

Beck continued to exercise her passion for the sport in 2014 when she volunteered her time to be a guide in the Paratriathlon program. Her Paratriathlon career took her on a journey around the world and sparked a lifelong drive to create more opportunities for people with a disability to get involved in sport. Since her Paralympic experience, Beck is committed to introducing aspiring athletes with a disability to sport in Ontario where she is focused on making triathlon more inclusive at the introductory level for all ages. Last year, Beck co-founded Paracylcing.org (PCO) where she is also a development coach.

“Sasha is an extraordinary talent who brings a vast skillset and experience from within, and outside, of sport that will be invaluable to ensuring the athlete’s perspective is heard through the development and implementation of Triathlon Canada’s long-term strategic planning,” said Peter McCrory, president, Triathlon Canada. “She is a highly motivated professional who is compassionate, understanding, but also knows what it takes to achieve at the highest level while enjoying the pursuit. Moreover, Sasha is relentless in her dedication to making the sport a more inclusive, welcoming place while encouraging more Canadians to swim, bike and run regardless of their skill levels or background.”

Beck brings experience working with sporting organization committees. She is currently a subject matter expert on Triathlon Ontario’s Provincial Development Plan (PDP) advisory committee.

“I believe my experience in both the development and Paralympic programs will provide valuable insight on policy, criteria, standards, pathways, and leadership to the Board of Directors. I also feel through working and training with athletes at all levels and varying abilities, I have developed a deep understanding of athlete issues, challenges and how Triathlon Canada can best support all athletes in our community,” added Beck.

“My sport and corporate experience have shaped me into a dedicated, highly collaborative and goal-oriented person who has a passion for governance and making the organization for the sport I love, stable and strong. I also want to continue to learn and grow from the experience and talent of the other Board members.”
